| Each year the Colorado GLBT Bar Association honors two individuals who have made significant
contributions to the GLBT community. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 2007 AWARD WINNERS: Last year, the Colorado GLBT Bar Association honored MICHAEL BREWER, ESQ., as our Outstanding GLBT Attorney, and Rep. TOM PLANT as our Outstanding GLBT Ally for their efforts on Referendum I. Evans in the United States Supreme Court ).
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * In 2005, the Colorado GLBT Bar Association honored Outstanding GLBT attorney Milo ("Mike") Gonser of Gonser & Associates, for his pioneering efforts in establishing the GLBT Bar Association (originally known as the Colorado Lesbian and Gay Bar Association, or "CLGBA"). The Association also honored GLBT Ally State Senator Abel Tapia for his courageous remarks about his gay son during the floor debate on fellow State Senator Jennifer Veiga's bill seeking to add sexual orientation to the state's employment nondiscrimination statute. In 2004, the GLBT Bar Association honored Outstanding GLBT attorney Julie Tolleson for her longtime advocacy on GLBT issues. GLBT Ally attorney Gina Weitzenkorn was honored for representing a lesbian who was denied visitation rights with her daughter who was living with her former partner. In this case, Ms. Weitzenkorn won landmark visitation rights for GLBT individuals. See In re ELMC, 100 P.3d 546 (Colo. App. 2004).
