On May 15, 2008, the California Supreme Court struck down two state laws limiting marriage unions between a man an a woman. The 4-3 decision drew upon a 60-year-old ruling that struck down a ban on interracial marriage. The decision makes California the second state (after Massachusetts) to permit gay marriage. The text of the decision can be found here. Shannon Minter of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, argued the case for the plaintiffs. Mr. Minter was the keynote speaker at the GLBT Bar Association's 4th Annual dinner in October 2007.
